1. It is the apex body for Disaster
Management in India and adheres to etho of Prevention, Mitigation, Preparedness
and Response.
2. NDMA is headed by the Prime Minister
of India.
3. A statutory body under Disaster
Management Act, 2005, providing an enabling environment for institutional
mechanisms at the State and District levels.
4. Mandates of NDMA
a. Formulate policies, plans and
guidelines for Disaster Management.
b. To mitigate the damage and destruction caused by natural and man-made disasters.
- Provide guidelines for State Government Authorities as per the State Plan.
- Provide guidelines for different Government Authorities to integrate the preventive measures for the Disaster in the development plans & projects.
- Coordinates with the workforce to implement the policies/plans.
- Recommending the provision of funds for mitigation.
- providing aid and support to the countries in need, as per Central government's decision.
- Provide guidelines and policies for the functioning of the NIDM (National Institute of Disaster Management).
