· The Food and
Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is a specialized agency of
the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger and
improve nutrition and food security.
· The FAO comprises 195 members,
including 194 countries and the European Union. Their headquarters is in Rome, Italy, and the FAO maintains regional and
field offices worldwide, operating in over 130 countries.
· It helps governments and development agencies coordinate their activities to improve and develop agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and land and water resources. It also conducts research, provides technical assistance to projects, operates educational and training programs, and collects agricultural output, production, and development data
World Food Programme
· The World Food Programme (WFP) is an international organization within the United Nations that provides food assistance worldwide. It is the world's largest humanitarian organization and the leading provider of school meals.Founded in 1961, WFP is headquartered in Rome and has offices in 80 countries
· In addition to emergency food relief, WFP offers technical and development assistance, such as building capacity for emergency preparedness and response, managing supply chains and logistics, promoting social safety programs, and strengthening resilience against climate change. It is also a major provider of direct cash assistance and medical supplies, and provides passenger services for humanitarian workers.
